about volunteering

Hello
I was wondering if maybe someone could help me out with some information about the volunteering program. Are there any requirements in order to become a volunteer? How log in advance do I have to apply for the program. How long do volunteers usually stay? would be great to hear from someone who has already some experience in the program.
